Dr Ian Andrew is a performer, composer, pianist, musical director, lecturer and highly sought-after vocal coach with over fifteen years’ experience in the performing arts. He completed a PhD in Music Studies at the Elder Conservatorium, studying voice under the guidance of Opera Australia’s Peter Hopkins before moving to Melbourne and studying musical theatre at APO Arts Academy and voice with West-End performer Derek Taylor.

Ian is an active and passionate performer and musician and has performed principal roles in numerous musicals and operas in Victoria and interstate (most recently in Midnight: The Cinderella Musical, Stranger Sings, Kinky Boots, Jekyll & Hyde and Jesus Christ Superstar) and has appeared in numerous television commercials/programs including SBS series Hungry Ghosts and ABC series Newsreader. He also frequently appears onstage with improvised musical groups including Impromptunes, Impro Melbourne and Improv Conspiracy. He was twice a state finalist in the MBS Young Performer awards, was the recipient of the 2012 Arnold Matters Vocal Scholarship, the 2014 Colors Performing Arts Scholarship, the 2017 MTGV Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Musical’ and was awarded ASME Young Composer of the Year for five consecutive years. He is frequently engaged as a lecturer in vocal anatomy and music theory, as a musical director and arranger for theatre productions, showcases and original cabarets, and is a highly sought-after teacher and accompanist for auditions, examinations, recitals and performances with a vast knowledge of technique and repertoire across multiple genres including classical, jazz, music theatre and contemporary pop/rock.
Ian teaches all ages and levels of experience from beginners to industry professionals and many of his students have gone on work professionally in the performing arts including roles in Hamilton, Wicked, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat, Matilda, Aladdin, Kinky Boots and School of Rock as well as corporate, international and cruise-ship contracts.
