Stephen McMahon is a Melbourne-based teacher, performer, musical director, and pianist with over 15 years of experience in the performing arts. He graduated from the University of Ballarat Arts Academy in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts (Musical Theatre). He has a background in providing musical direction and vocal coaching to a diverse range of people, from complete beginners to industry professionals. He has taught ensemble voice classes at institutions around Victoria, including APO Arts Academy, Theatre Blacks, Stage School Australia, and the University of Ballarat.
Stephen is passionate about creating theatre and has worked as a musical director for independent companies (Stranger Sings with Salty Theatre, Ordinary Days with Cheeky Theatre). He also works with community theatre companies, assisting people of all ages and backgrounds develop their singing and performance skills. He received a Musical Theatre Guild nomination for his work on a production of A Chorus Line at Williamstown Musical Theatre Company. Stephen has performed in and assisted in developing cabarets at The Butterfly Club and the Adelaide Fringe Festival, including Auditions: A Cabaret, Can You Catch Pregnancy? and Life According to the Mouse.
Stephen provides coaching on musical theatre, jazz, and contemporary voice and is available to assist with preparation for tertiary musical theatre auditions and for AMEB singing exams. He can provide guidance on on-stage performance, musical analysis, and music theory and provide piano lessons catered towards singers.
